A Study on Occupational Accident of Older Workers and Vulnerable Working Condition

Abstract
This study analyzed older workers over the age of 55 and non-elderly workers under the age of 55 the current status of working condition, experience of occupational accident or illness, health and discrimination. As a result, this study explores the measures to identify the prevent older workers occupational accident.
For analysis, this study used for a third survey in 2011 Korean Working Conditions Survey, Economically Active Population Survey of Statistics Korea and Survey on Industrial Accidents that is industrial accident insurance business data and DB data approved medical treatment more than 4 days. The data was analyzed using SAS 9.3 program and used frequency test, chi-square test and ANOVA test. The study results were as follows. Working hour and work intensity for older workers" were significantly lower than non-elderly workers. Older workers are more exposed to risk factors such as high temperature, dust, fatigue, and pain posture, moving heavy objects, keep standing, repetitive hand and feet movement. This study analyzed that the rate of older workers suffering from health problem has increase rather than non-elderly workers in all disease. The rate of age discrimination was increase, also, rate of physical violence was a little increasing. And occupational accident rate of older workers are steadily increasing. Especially, occupational accident is increasing every year for workers of under 1 year of long-service. So older workers who change job are expected to need monitoring and education.
